Worth Valley Walks series ended. Casual walks proposed.
Reg Hindley, whose annual series of Spring walks began in 1969, has decided he must end the formal series and confine himself to occasional walks for pure pleasure, with no fees and no ‘health & safety’ or insurance commitments(!!!).
He hopes to lead the usual annual Boundary Walk on Sunday 15th June, starting from Howarths’ saw works (old Raistricks’ tannery) on Keighley Road at 9.30 a.m., but is open to suggestions about a number of short evening or possibly Saturday afternoon walks aimed mainly to introduce newcomers to the village and not straying far from its immediate surroundings – i.e. from the station or ‘Muffin Corner’ no further than Leeming, Marsh or West Croft Head. Old ‘supporters’ would be welcome to attend but would get little new – just more of the old companionship.
The idea of the odd Saturday afternoon is to see if it would be better for some, e.g. people with children, than an evening commitment. Children aged about eight upwards, or otherwise used to moderate family walking, would be welcome if accompanied. It is difficult to guess the degree of interest, so will anyone interested phone Reg on 643087 or email him at reg-hindley@oxenhope.fsnet.co.uk to give a general indication; or call at Thorn Villa – just above Muffin Corner - and tell him..
Any walks to be arranged would be after 16th June. Attendance will be at your own risk, with no commitment to anything more than using your common sense and accepting personal adult responsibility when walking in a group. Any evenings would probably be Wednesday, from sheer habit, but if you have a case for another day, say so.
If you have an email address please give it to Reg, as it will make ‘group’ answers easy and save loss of time.
Apart from this, Reg will also be delighted to be invited to join any more distant or exotic walks organised by someone else – especially old friends and/or ‘youngsters’: so long as there are no forms, except the sort you sit on!
Oxenhope Parish Council set up this section to enable Community Groups to advertise their organisations and events.
